Since I sent this idea, I've realized that there was already a PDE 
enhancement to do one part of what's described above...see this bug 
relevant to the PDE plugin registry view/ui...originally created before 
RS/RSA was specified:

As you can see be reading my recent comment, one thing that I'm 
proposing is that the ECF team and the PDE team work together on making 
tooling enhancements for ECF's Remote Services...over the coming year 
and beyond.
