Hi,
first you should be familiar with eclipse and how to develop eclipse components. Next step is to check out EASE and understand what it does and what it is used for. Therefore you should learn about scripting and how to add scripts to your IDE.
For all these things there is plenty of information available depending on your skill level.
When it comes to dependencies, you should be familiar with the eclipse plugin system. You will need to verify which plugins are available and if versions match a given range.
To indicate errors you need to know about eclipse decorators.
To run updates for the user you finally need knowledge on P2.

If you are interested in working on this topic you should be able to follow the EASE contribution guide. Therefore make a small contribution to prove you know the process. This will be required for a GSoC proposal to be taken into account.
