Hi Boris,
hi Mickael,
Is this a requirement, at this point, to make it impossible to retrieve
the original stream for anyone?
Well.. This could be discussed. The supposed stakeholder for this
requirement is the community, so that's *you* guys. Technically it's, of
course, not a problem to keep the key in a safe place -- excepted there
is no such thing as a safe place, as some may say. I could be hacked,
and people at the EF could be too.
I understand that the providing anonymous dataset is interesting as you
explained, but what couldn't you or Eclipse Foundation keep the private
RSA key safely to decode the id if you find some unexpected patterns? If
you make id anonymous and find a set of id which have a strange
correlation and that you'd like to explain, wouldn't it be helpful to
decode the id and find out who are the individuals behind it to better
understand the cause of the correlation or even set up chats with
selected contributors to better understand their practices?
Good point. Well, the research community doesn't have much interest
(AFAICT) in identifying people personally. This could make sense in the
context of the eclipse community, if that's what we all want.
I'm quite sure there are a few people highly concerned with privacy in
this list, hence my question in this place. If it's considered
acceptable to keep the key, I'm ok with that.
My 2c (or maybe even less ;)
Thank you very much for the feedback, Mickael.
Have a colourful day! :-)
