[cross-project-issues-dev] object teams feature patch shows up and break

Hey!

I have a fresh Eclipse Photon M5 (Java package) install. When I do a “Check for Updates”, the ObjectTeams JDT feature patch shows up.
I have no idea why, since I don’t have anything beyond the plain Photon M5 Java package installed.

When I agree to the install/update, the Java tooling is hugely broken afterwards (maybe because I am running on a JDK9 VM, don’t know).
I think this is quite dangerous, because people might have the automatic check for updates enabled and might just trust the IDE to show available updates and install.

Is there any specific reason why this happens?
