Look indeed like Bug 435888. Our build used
org.eclipse.e4.ui.workbench.swt 0.12.100.v20140521-1818 from
<<http://download.eclipse.org/releases/luna/>. Now switched to
<http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/4.4-I-builds/>, which I
probably should have done all along. That seems to have fixed the issue.
