[cross-project-issues-dev] Google Summer of Code

Greetings folks.

Our soc-dev mailing [1] list got toasted somehow. The noble Webmaster has re-created it. However, the membership on that list has been lost in the process.

If you are interested in being a mentor on Google Summer of Code [2] this year, or are just interested in tracking the conversation, please sign up. If you know of any students who are interested in the programme, please let them know as well.

With the Google Summer of Code programme, Google funds students to work on open source projects. Eclipse has participated in this programme since 2006, mentoring around one hundred student projects.

Many of these projects have explored new ideas and concepts. Many have resulted in real code becoming part of Eclipse projects. Many have resulted in new committers joining Eclipse projects for the long-haul.

The last number is relatively small, and so this year we're focusing on our "conversion rate" and will be looking specifically for student projects that have the best probability of ending with the student becoming a long-term committer.

This only works if you get involved. Most of the conversation will be happening on soc-dev. I'll see you there.

Note that I'll be setting up a BoF for Eclipse participation in GSoC at EclipseCon 2012.
