I don't know enough about the particular XText case to comment. But as a general statement I think the purpose of orbit is that where multiple projects are using the same version of a 3rd party bundle, it provides a way to ensure we only have one copy of it. It also aids in streamlining the IP process around 3rd party libraries. I don't think the main value is that we all use the same *version* of each 3rd party library. Every project has different requirements, and might have good reasons for choosing a particular version over another. Of course if a project doesn't have a strong requirement to use one version over another, then moving up so we are all on the same version is a nice bonus.
