This is a good question. The URL of those repositories is actually embedded in the older releases, so there is no way to update that old release to point elsewhere. One possibility is replacing it with a composite repository that points to a real repository in the archive area. However, repositories in general are much more space efficient than other kinds of downloads - there is only a single repository for all platforms and there is no redundancy. So, it might be ok to just leave them in place if their space usage is reasonable.
