Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] Status and Outlook for RC4 +2 day

No. But it is similar in that every year, I do not well communicate the concept of "quiet week" early enough,
and many projects think they should build nearly up to the release.  If its just one project that's releasing,
that's not completely unreasonable for doc changes ... though I personally would still advocate "quiet week".

Let's see ... does it reformat the hard drive? Set fire to the office furniture? :)
Or, seriously, prevent other projects code from working? Prohibit maintenance from being applied?

I would prefer you (and others) make doc improvements in a maintenance release, rather then pushing through
all the bits all over again, just for documentation improvements. (But true blockers or "shoe stoppers", yes).

Perhaps a litmus test is as follows ... if the build failed, could you live without it?
Trick question ... if so, then why do it at all, so late? On the other hand, if it is the kind of bug or short coming that we
should delay release until it is fixed, then yes, we should do it next week.

But, it is your release, quality is important.  For a case like "documentation improvements" I think a review/request from
your PMC/Planning Council rep would be in order, before I push the build button.

Thanks ... sorry I didn't think to emphasize this quiet week concept, and document it better.

So I guess that's the answer to my question from yesterday.
This is different than last year, isn't it?

Anyway, I would like to request having a final contribution next week.
As we want to further polish the documentation and also want to be able to fix any show stopper bugs.
I don't think we'll have the latter, but the documentation definitely needs some additional work.

Does that justify?

thanks,
