Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] Download stats for p2

Surely it is all documented... *gasp*  No!   Nick, do you mind if I highjack this Wiki page to document all this?

    http://wiki.eclipse.org/Project_Download_Stats

To answer some quick questions:
yes, we'll use http://download.eclipse.org/stats and I'll feed those entries into our Stats interface in the Portal (http://portal.eclipse.org > Eclipse Project > [tools] for Committers > Download stats)

<eclipse project namespace>.<tracked item>.<some version info>
such as
org.eclipse.wtp.xmlfeature.helios.sr0
or similar, right?

Um, sure.

The more technical question, the directions say,  "You can pick one plugin in your feature for example "
Does it have to be a plugin? Could it not be the "...feature.group"?
Was there a reason the instructions say "plugin"? For example, is there a trick to include
a "tracking plugin" in a feature?

I do not know the answer to that.

There appears to be two "variable" parts that users have to set, according to the directions at
http://wiki.eclipse.org/Equinox_p2_download_stats

1) http://your.stats.server/stats
2)test.plugin.1.bundle

I assume the first part (for eclipse components) should be, literally,

http://download.eclipse.org/stats

right?

And, the second part, would best be of some form of

<eclipse project namespace>.<tracked item>.<some version info>
such as
org.eclipse.wtp.xmlfeature.helios.sr0
or similar, right?

and the webmasters at some point will tabulate what's in logs, that are
head requests to http://download.eclipse.org/stats

Or, have I gotten the wrong idea?

Just a reminder to those projects who want download stats from p2 downloads ...  You need to enable it on your repository.  So far I haven't seen any stats hits to our download servers, so I'm hoping those projects won't wait until June 22 to try this out.

Thanks!
