You may want to try the eGit build again.  The slave has been configured to point to the correct JDK if your build requires a java 6 jdk.

We've recently provisioned a slave Build server for Hudson, affectionately called "build2".  The new server is one of the two IBM x3550 systems that were recently donated by IBM.  This slave machine packs dual quad-core Xeon CPUs and a whopping 36G RAM, so it can handle _plenty_.

We do need some folks to test it out, though, so if you'd like to bind your build job to the slave on Hudson, please give it a whirl -- and open bugs against Community/Hudson to report any anomalies.  Shifting some jobs from the master to the slave may help alleviate the Hudson failures we've been experiencing on the master instance.

I tried to build egit on build2 but this fails immediately since the configured JAVA_HOME 
which is called "Base Java 6.0 installation (/shared/common)" in the Hudson job configuration 
doesn't exist:
