Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] SDK's on Galileo?

Hi Jeff,

given that target platform components need to be consumed by
a different wizard than updating Eclipse itself, has anyone
ever thought about putting those RT Target Platform stuff into
a separate Repository?
Yes that was explicitly considered and we decided to go with one repo. My (somewhat faulty) recollection is that this was seen as simpler (one repo vs two for users) and given the relatively small number of things in the Target category for this release, the most efficient approach.
And have that target platform repository auto-populated in the PDE Targe Platform provisioning wizard, but not in the
p2 update wizard.
The current target mechanism is not able to do this separation so both repos would show up in both locations in the UI. That is effectively another reason why the split would not be that useful (currently).
While I do understand the role of source bundles in the target platform category, I still don't quite understand
what we're going to do with the developer docs (*.doc.isv
bundles) since my understanding is that those need to live
in the host Eclipse...
Yes, my understanding is similar though it of course makes sense for the ISV doc to come from the target just like the source. We should look at that requirement in 3.6. Another way look at this is that the ISV doc is "like tooling" for the runtime and people should install it into their IDE. Personally I think this is a poor second choice since I often switch targets between 3.4 and 3.5 (for example). However, it is where we are in the Help / Target support now so we should deliver our content accordingly.
