I definitely agree on that point. A listing with words verses acronym
soup seems far better.
We've been using things like this for quite a while:
featureName=EMF - Eclipse Modeling Framework Runtime and
Tools
providerName=Eclipse.org
I suppose this discussion is only about providerNames and not about
feature/plugin names. We'd have more fun if we considered those as
well!
I was really hoping for a committee of "goodness." That would be
endless fun. :-P

Not really. I agree that EMF is a strong brand today :-)
What I'm serious about is that if project branding is important to
Galileo and coming release trains, and if we really care about how
things look when listed together and want to convey an impression that
it all stems from the same family, then the frequent use of
abbreviations is starting to become problematic. The problem gets worse
over time since many new proposed projects continue in that vein.
