In the following bug, there is a discussion about pushing common UI utility methods (often found in a much-copied class called SWTUtil) down into JFace.
There is a proposal for where the methods should go as well as suggestions for new ones.
At the risk of swirling to the point that nothing will be done, I invite input in this bug....
