Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] [Fwd: Re: [wtp-dev] Pieces missing from Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers distribution]]

Verified that this works for me.

Sorry for this and thanks for removing the broken package so quickly from the
download page. I still have to figure out, why the problem was not detected.

A new and fixed 'Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers' package is available for
download. Please follow the download links for your platform in bug 194959.

Mik, Neil, (or someone else!) can you test and verify that the Update Manager
is working in the new JEE package? As this seems to be a very popular
package, I want to get another 'works for me' before putting it back on the
download page.

Thanks,
Markus.

We have had this reported by people trying to install extensions to Mylyn.
Since a lot of Java EE packages have already gone out we put up a FAQ entry
for how to work around this:

The JEE package has been removed from the downloads page as well as the
Europa Page.

Please advise when I can rollback these changes.

OK, Nathan is going to remove the Java EE package from the download page.

Hopefully marcus can take a look on the weekend or Monday. When it is
fixed we will put it back up.

There is an issue with the Java EE Developer package that causes serious
problems when trying to use the Update Manager after the initial
installation. This is due to a couple of missing plugins that should be in
the package. See bug 194959 and below for more information. These missing
plugins only affect the Update Manager functionality, but affect it in a
very serious way.

The question is whether or not we should pull the Java EE package from the
download section until this issue can be corrected, as this is likely to be
a major user issue when it comes to updating or adding functionality via
the Update Manager.

Unfortunately it appears that a couple of plugins didn't make it into the
JEE distribution for some reason. Specifically:

org.eclipse.datatools.doc.user_1.0.0.200706071.jar
org.eclipse.datatools.enablement.finfo_1.5.0.200706221.jar

This was probably the result of trying to user "feature level" prereqs in
the JPT feature. This may have caused a problem with prereq's for the IDE
distributions. The pure -Update Manager from Platform only- path will
download the correct plugins and therefore will not have this issue.

To remedy the problem with the current JEE configuration, one must download
the Data Tools Platform Enablement feature AND the Data Tools Platform
Documentation feature.

This seems like a pretty serious usability issue.

I downloaded this distribution, went to install WLS Server Tools via an
update site and got the following message:

Java Persistence API Tools (1.0.0.v200706250000-77--CYQCCz-CoRPCCCH)
requires feature "org.eclipse.datatools.enablement.feature".

Screen shot attached.

Note that the feature that I am installing has no dependencies on JPA or
DTP. I looked at the distribution and indeed it does not contain
org.eclipse.datatools.enablement.feature feature. In fact there are quite a
few datatools features missing as compared to a "standard" WTP installation
(as downloaded via the WTP build page). It looks like this problem will
prevent installation of all features via the update site mechanism.

Not sure who owns creating this distribution...
