This sounds like the best approach, for Mylyn to prepare a "patch" feature and plugin from their own update site.
(It should not be identically named ... that's anti-policy and there's no reason for it ... just bump the service field).
This is how emergency maintenance should normally work ... .and, I agree, this bug is not a "burn down the building"
sort of stop ship bug ... which to me, is the only thing that should qualify at this point.

What if Mylyn incorporated the fix into an
identically named and versioned plugin.jar file,
and attach it to bugzilla for now?

Then, this single file can be copied to Europa
and other packages (I'd also not be a fan of
manually updating ZIPs for EPP but it would be
a faster option).

In case it does not get incorporated into the
builds, the patch would already be on bugzilla
for users to consume.

I guess that Markus may have the final word here
since he'd be most affected.
