Hi Dani ... since Eclipse has M for
Service builds and S for Milestone builds I don't think we can make it
much more confusing. :) 

Just kidding! And, seriously, we in
Orbit did discuss this just today and opted on "Recommended"
to not be confused with "Released" 
in the usual sense of Eclipse Foundation
Releases ... which means a very specific thing, having Release Reviews,
etc. 
(Whereas the third party code has already
been "released" somewhere else, usually long ago by internet
time scales). 

In Orbit, our primary concern is with
providing a long-term home for these bundles which others will use in their
Project's releases. 
We have documented these names, policies,
etc., in 
http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Promotion%2C_Release%2C_and_Retention_Policies

Of course ... if there is a great wave
of opinion that it should be neither Released nor Recommended, I'm sure
we'd consider 
suggestions ... as long as it starts
with 'R' :)

Of course the mentioned "official" build types are from the Eclipse
Project
and Orbit can define its own but it might reduce confusion to not reuse
same terms for different things.

Just curious: does Orbit define its own build types? There is an official
definition of build types:
      http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/build_types.html
and there the R* builds are releases (and not "recommended").

As Europa approaches, we would like to take a stable Orbit build and
promote it to "R" status. (Recommended) Once promoted, projects
are
encouraged to consume Orbit bundles from the R-build.

If you contribute a bundle to Orbit, please take a few minutes and look
at
the latest stable Orbit build to ensure that your bundle is ready for
consumption. Remember to check the abouts and licensing files as well as
the source bundle, etc.

The deadline for contributions to the last Orbit build will be June 13
@noon EST. (tomorrow)
