Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] EMF/XSD/SDO to be split into smaller features

Sorry for the cross-post, but this is important for everyone consuming EMF/SDO/XSD to be aware.

There's a fly in the ointment here, since these features already exist as "runtime all-in-one features", and thus will have to change to accommodate our plan.

There's also an org.eclipse.emf "runtime all-in-one feature", which will be removed to be consistent w/ the new organization of SDO and XSD's features.

SDK features will continue to include all the same plugin content, but nested in the new subfeatures instead of using these 'all-in-one' features.

Once again, please voice your concerns in the bug, if you have any.

Cheers,

Nick

After 2 days and no major objections, it looks like we'll be moving forward with plan to add 26 new features and 5 new branding plugins, starting tomorrow. This should be sufficient time to build & test so that these new features will be available for our 2.3.0M7 next week.

If you *DO* have objections, please post your thoughts in https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=106804.

Going once...

Hi,
We've been asked on many occasions to provide a more granular set of features for EMF/XSD/SDO.  The original request was https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=106804 and in that bugzilla we've outlined a proposed set of features; the features we have already today will continue to exist.   There are many ways to slice the pie, so by providing many small meaningful slices we are trying to ensure that each client will be able to pick up pretty much only the things they actually need.  If you have concerns, comments, or suggestions please use bugzilla for discussion purposes.
