[cross-project-issues-dev] Project vservers, home directories

Greetings,

As Ward posted yesterday, I'll be using this channel from now on to communicate issues that may interest the releng and build teams to avoid saturating the Committers' list. Because most of the issues have an impact on multiple projects, Ward and I though cross-project-issues-dev would be the ideal place to communicate.

Project Vservers
================

I'd like for vserver owners to please remember the host that their vserver is using, so I can easily communicate specific maintenance issues:

barnraising1 host: ECF, CDT, Mylar, AJDT, EMFT, BIRT (0 slots available)
barnraising2 host: Phoenix, DSDP, RAP, Corona, Higgins, Dash (0 slots available)
barnraising3 host: DLTK (8 slots available)

The barnraising1 host will be rebooted tomorrow, March 2 2007, for maintenance. All vservers on that host will be restarted as a result.

If your project needs a vserver, please inquire about one to the webmaster. Please note that for build-only purposes, please inquire about using build.eclipse.org instead.

Build.eclipse.org and your Home Directory
=========================================

Historically, user home directories have had no real use, so we did not design our current disk subsystems with heavy home directory disk usage in mind.

If you're using your home directory to run your builds/staging/testing on build.eclipse.org, please discontinue doing so, in favor of using the build server's fast disk array via /shared/your-project. No only will your builds be much, much faster, you'll also be sparing our disk back-end from severe punishment.

If your project would like more information on building using build.eclipse.org, please let me know.

Thanks for reading. If you have any specific issues or concerns, please contact us directly at webmaster@xxxxxxxxxxx.

Denis
