Fyi, since the beginning we’ve had the Mylar dependencies
specified both with plug-ins and features to attempt to work around this update
manager problem, and we still get the behavior of an update causing dependent
features not to get downloaded (resulting in partial updates and broken
installs). We’ve experimented with various ways of specifying dependencies
and never resolved this, so our download page has bold text stating that users
should *always* use “Search for new features…”.
I regularly comment on the following bug to bring attention to
this, but it’s still in limbo. If others are seeing this please consider
commenting. Unless we’re doing something very wrong, this will result in
broken installs for others as well.

multiple searches

Subject: Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] Update Manager "Select
Required" Broken Again? [ was Re: Europa build Monday morning: all green
except pack200 problem]
I
was following the recommendation in the official Version Numbering Guidelines (http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Version_Numbering#Versioning_features
) with respect to the declaration of feature dependencies.
I thought the
Update Manager had already fixed this problem, in https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=138802
.
Is something
broken again? It certainly isn't working ...
Sounds like you'll need to reopen that bug or assign the one I opened to them
for feedback. The behaviour I documented is not what I'd expect to see as a
seasoned Eclipse user, much less a first-time Europa user. It's great that UM
now understands that by selecting the OCL feature that the org.eclipse.emf.ocl
plugin has been selected (and therefore the error message goes away). My issue
is that 'select required' should just select them for me, without me having to
pick them by hand. Isn't that what 'select required' means? ;-)
Anyway, this isn't an EMFT bug as such, but it's affecting your existing and
future users, so I'll leave it to you to chase the Platform > Update folks
with this issue.
