[cross-project-issues-dev] update manager problem updating feature dependencies

On the Mylar project we have been using features in a similar way to
Callisto (see screenshot on http://www.eclipse.org/mylar/dl.php), but have
never been able to make "Search for updates of the currently installed
features" work properly.
If this reflects an update manager bug, it could also pose a serious problem
for people updating Callisto features. If it is not we would love to know
how others are working around it. To summarize, if "Search for new
features.." is used the update manager will happily obey feature version
dependencies. But if "Search for updates.." is used it can offer to install
only a single feature without the more recent version that the feature has
been specified to depend on (via match="greaterOrEqual"). If a user allows
such an update it is very likely to result in a broken configuration.
This is all described on the following bug, reported on March 18th, but in
spite of our ongoing inquiries nobody from Platform has commented or
acknowledged it. If anyone on this mailing list has advice, a similar
problem, or is successfully managing to update Callisto components please
advise.
