Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] Notes and screenshots of install problems

Wow, what a good idea, Bjorn ... after hours of continued frustration .. .it sometimes working, sometimes not ... I tried going direct to our
IBM internal mirror in Ottawa and ... it worked GREAT.  So .. problem solved.  :)

Just kidding ... this does demonstrate, though,  that a big part of the problem is the mirroring process itself (or, our timing). I think if we try to go directly to Eclipse.org, we are often "shut out" because the Eclipse.org infrastructure is trying to give a very high priority to replicating to the mirrors (so, files are unavailable to us mere downloaders) ... and, even though now that the list of mirrors is growing .. that's a little deceptive because the list of mirrors is based on the existence of one specific file (/callisto/releases/site.xml) as an indicator that the site does indeed mirror that directory ... it does not mean that all 300 Megs of files are already duplicated there yet (so, picking that mirror will sometimes end in failure, depending on what's been replicated).

So ... we should expect to see the general experience improve over next day or two ... as mirror replication finishes.
Also, I know Denis is working on some improvements in general strategy of mirroring "temporary" builds .. as our /staging area was ... no need to flood the system with that.
See https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=128556

I expect in the future, we won't mirror the /staging area at all, once we have tested it, we will copy to "/releases" area ... and then no one will touch it for several days .. while it replicates around the world.

Oh, and BTW ... in case you think there is corporate favoritism going on with that Ottawa mirror ... our Toronto and RTP Internal Mirrors are (still) completely empty of this content! ... so, its just an Ottawa favoritism :)

Pascal,
Are you (invisibly) using some internal IBM mirror to update from, perhaps?  What if you went to a Starbucks with a laptop and tried it from outside the firewall?  Just a theory...

Since yesterday I have successfully installed all the projects from callisto several times.

Today I encountered a few errors (mostly time and missing files) but nothing too weird.

It is unforntunate that you guys have the errors and I don't as I'm looking at fixing some those bugs...
