Re: [andmore-dev] updates

Hello Eric and others,

The phrase "the powers that be" that I used is being misunderstood.  I am not referring to developers or to Eclipse foundation management folks.

What I am referring to is the deep pockets folks - the strategic planners and bean counters at IBM, Oracle and other companies that funded the original Eclipse IDE project and could easily fund a couple of FTEs to keep Andmore alive and well.  But alas, none of them seem to understand the danger of Google stealing developers' hearts and minds.  Microsoft has always understood the importance of keeping developers happy inside the MS walled garden.  Sun was also good at that for a while.  Apple has been hit or miss in that regard throughout its history.  Oracle and others, not so much.

There is a real danger of Google, Microsoft and Apple building really effective walls around their developer playgrounds, to the detriment of those who understand the long term importance of portable programming languages and tools.

Nuff said.

There is no secret cabal at the eclipse foundation. There are only volunteers that took time out of their lives to continue supporting Android on eclipse. There was no community involvement so the developers found new things to do.

Anyone is welcome to restart the project by submitting patches to support new SDKs. After showing a certain level of competency with the eclipse APIs they can have the joy and fulfillment that comes with being one of the powers that be.

Hello Norbert,

Yes, Andmore appears to be dead.

The abandonment of Andmore by the powers that be in the Eclipse world is a gigantic mistake that will lead to more and more happy Eclipse users migrating away from our favorite IDE.  In the long run this is bad for *all* Eclipse users.
