[news.eclipse.webtools] Re: BPEL4WS contribution
|
Vlad,
Thanks for the shared interest. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but as I
said in my proposal a UML based editor has some limitations for a BPEL
process editor framework.
I don't think it's possible to support BPMN using UML. Perhaps you can come
close though. You probably have a better idea than I do of how close you can
come to supporting BPMN.
Also, I'm not sure how thorough the integration with the Eclipse model would
be for your solution. For instance, BPEL offers many constraints on a model
which can be reflected in the Tasks view. Will your BPEL profiles offer this
kind of user feedback? How seamlessly will your solution integrate with the
WSDL and other tools that are required by BPEL? Many BP solutions offer a
form editor. Will your solution be extendable in such a way that allows
developers to plug in their own forms editor?
I could go on, but I think the general consensus from BPMI.org is that UML
is too generic to support the kind of functionality required for a fully
functional BPEL editor, hence the BPMN spec.
I do think a UML editor solution is quick, easy to learn and could be a nice
offer for limited modeling, and I think Omondo writes some excellent tools.
Please be free to disagree with me if you see things differently.
