Try creating a batch file to start eclipse.

I use one like this

JAVA_HOME=$HOME/j2sdk1.4.1_01

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$HOME/Projects/GuiDict/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH

export PATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH

cd $HOME/eclipse

./eclipse &
