[news.eclipse.tools] Problems with Xerces 2.3/4 and Eclipse 2.1

I'm having troubles getting around this one.

It seems I can't build any plugins because of conflicts between the (as
shipped) 2.1 Eclipse xerces and the newer 2.4 version that I have in
jre/lib/endorsed.

Coping the newer versions into plugins/org.apache.xerces_4.0.7 gives no joy.

What can I do?  I need those files in jre/lib/endorsed so some of my other
app can run.
