[news.eclipse.tools] Re: [Q] Which Linux version of Eclipse is better ?

Maybe you can try to build gtk by yourself. I did it on my Suse 8, and Eclipse runs without problems.

Hi,

I've been using Eclipse explicitly on Windows, and now I would like to
try it on Linux (I'm a Linux newbie, however).
I installed RedHat 8.0 distribution.
I got confused when I saw two Linux distributions of Eclipse (for
Motif and GTK). I read, that GTK is generally the UI of the Gnome
desktop, but I didn't quite get what exactly is Motif (obviously a UI
library, but should it be installed separately?).

I'd like to ask the Linux veterans which UI is better - Motif or GTK?
Does KDE support either Motif or GTK?
If I decide to use Motif, should I download it and install it, or is
it included in RH 8 distribution?
TIA.

Regards,
Stefan

Well, GTK is better than Motif. At least, better looking :-). I don't know about the speed though. I am using the latest release, GTK version (2.1) on an Athlon XP machine with 512 MB RAM with KDE 3.1.1 and it works fine. So I suggest the GTK version.

What distro are you using? I'm using the GTK version on KDE 3.1 and Mandrake 9.1, and it won't stop crashing.
