I mean that's how I use it
1) install eclipse in c:\eclipse
2) install you own plugins under d:\anotherdir\plugins
3) create a directory c:\eclipse\links
4) create a file inside called foo.lnk
5) in the type path=d:/anotherdir
6) start eclipse
7) et voila
PS: check the content of the file, I say that from memory
to update, delete the plugins and features directory under c:\eclipse and
install the new version...
PS2: you can even do that from the Update Manager UI....
