Nope, that is exactly what basic authentication in , let's say Apache, will 
show
try to setup a authentication in the directory where site.xml is, when the 
user will click on the bookmarks, we will opena URl connection, the Apache 
server will ask for authentication, we will prompt the user, and pass the 
userid/password back...

try it, and let me know if you need me to explain more or if I didn't make 
sense at all
