[news.eclipse.tools] Debugging skips synthetic methods?

I've switched on Preferences->Java->Debug->Step Filtering->Filter Synthetic
Methods, yet I'm still stepping into synthetic methods -- I'm experimenting
on a minimal example with a synthetic constructor.

The checkbox is labelled with "requires VM support"... Is it supposed to
work on the Sun VM 1.4.1?
