[news.eclipse.tools] Precisions on AST manipulation

Hello, 

I would like to know if it is possible to get the source
code of an AST created programmatically (I used the example
provided in the JDT help), or to output it in a file.

Moreover I would like to know where is the setRoot() method
the documentation of AST.newCompilationUnit method is talking 
about. It seems that the example provided does not use this
method either. 
Could you please give me more info ?
