Actually, I think the press-time is compensating for the IDE. I hit the
eclipse.org during a google-session and thought "oh, well, another sad
OpenSource project that is maintained by the sponsor", and when on looking
through my search results, completely ignoring Eclipse. After that I saw
several articles in magazines that convinced me to go back and take another
look.

Maybe a few screenshots on the index-page together with a list of features
would do the trick.
