I had the same problem, but it turned out it wasn't "ld-related".
Just solved the problem, after reading answer in another thread:
downgrade your pango to pango-1.0.1-1gtk from
ftp://ftp.gtk.org/pub/gtk/v2.0/binary/old/RedHat-7.2/RPMS/i386/
Exlipse refuses to start with pango-1.0.3...
