[news.eclipse.tools] Source folders

I am new to Eclipse and I would appreciate your help.
I am trying to import a fairly large project I have into Eclipse. It is
essential to me to have the Java source code separate from the .class files.
Therefore I used the option: "use source folders contained in the project"
when creating my project.
Now, when I try to add a source folder to my project, I can only create
a -subfolder- of my project folder. However, the wizard does -not- allow a
subfolder to be used.
I am in a catch22 now. Did I miss something or is this a bug?
