Actually, I appear to be the primary person arguing for the facility in this
thread. There have been a few folks who have also weighed in and
acknowledged that the facility is needed, but I haven't seen many concrete
reasons for needing it beyond the features we have in mind. The Action
enablement issue also represents a valid need, but it could possibly be
handled in the way that Randy says it used to be handled in JFace.
In essence, we are talking about system-level feature requirements. If
Eclipse built in every possible system-level feature (like a scheduler),
then possibly there would not be a need for any startup hooks. Until it
does, however, hooking into the startup process is a necessary and
*required* facility.
