[news.eclipse.tools] Multiple users sharing an Eclipse install on Linux

We plan to install our Eclipse based product on Linux with the core
product in a read/execute-only shared area (such as a directory like
/opt/eclipse) so that multiple users on Linux  boxes can execute a
common installation while having independent workspaces in their
respective home directories.  We've been using it this way and have
found no problems.  Are there any issues we need to be aware of in this
configuration?  Is it not advisable or is it encouraged?
