[news.eclipse.tools.pdt] How to use PDT

I'm use to working with Gedit, Notepad, and vim for website design. 
Someone has recommended I check out Eclipse(which I have used before for 
Java application design and I enjoyed it) and also use the PDT plugin. 
After setting up both, I am still left with the question:

What does PDT do? And if it does something, how do I make PDT do 'it'?

I think the documentation needs a little work on PDT's features, and 
examples of how/why those features are useful.
