[news.eclipse.tools.hyades] START_TRACE, STOP_TRACE in the my Java code?

Our company started using Hyades w/ success a while back.
We're trying to get more advanced.
I'd like to learn how to control the start profile/stop profile from
within the Java code. MY instinct is to setProperty w/ START_TRACE &
STOP_TRACE, but unsure. I used to use IBM's research group Java profiler
and they had this function.
The filtering function helps, but we have 1000's of classes and millions
of lines of code.
Any help is appreciated.
