It depends a long on what "slightly" means.  It might be sufficient to provide a specialized BasicExtendedMetaData for producing the names you want and recognizing them.  Specializing the XMLHandler, XMLSaveImpl, or XMLHelperImpl might be necessary for more complex specializations.
