[news.eclipse.tools.emf] Re: generating uml diagrams with emf

I tested out Argo2Ecore. Pretty good for the test project...
Thanks to all the people that gave me ideas, including Ed. This is such a wonderful newsgroup!
omondo is really a great tool, but slider is looking for a free tool.
the free version of omondo only exists for eclipse 2.1 and the
free edition for eclipse 3.0 will come end of the year or later.

I like it to work with omondo and I use the enterprise betas.
I know they are working hard, but I think they have much work
to do to make all stable and work 'really' together. the emf-modelling
is not the same base as the uml-modelling and the database-part
is the next thing what works different and is not integrated.

some weeks I had a very good feeling - I tested the emf-part hardly,
spent many hours (or better days ;-) to reproduce bugs and report
them. but the last 3 weeks I get no answers from my mails to the
developers :-(

on the other side 1900 ? are much money for a small ISV and using
omondo enterprise then my project depends from omondo (and the
source code is not open)

but they have the only inside-eclipse-usable emf modeller and the
other product (uml-modelling) with live bi-direct coding/modelling
is really great.

argo uml is no solution for me, because the GUI is not the best ;-)
poseidon and magicdraw are nice tools, but they work separated
from eclipse and have no easy emf-support.

I dont know any other tool which could work for emf and uml-modelling
inside eclipse, so I think I'll give omondo a try.

Since IBM owns Rational, I can use it for free, so I use Rose 98.  I don't have an opinion on which free tool is best.  I know lots of folks use Omonodo and seem to like it...

Hey Ed, are Argo and Argo2Ecore your choice of free UML tool? I was really hoping there was something better than Argo. Eike, thanks for all your replies!

Does argo2ecore do the trick:

seems that poseidonUML can only export to XMI,
which i understand to be different from XSD as well
as from MDL.

i wonder if it was hard to implement an XMI iport to EMF?

sometimes i work with TogetherControlCenter, which
also can only export to various XMI formats (and costs
around 6000 otherwise unneeded dollars ;-))
