My first impression is that "test-and-performance" and "tptp" are not great
names for a project. The first one is too long and the second is too
cryptic. I suggest either calling it Hyades or coming up with a new name
(for example, Corona, Flare, Trace, or Transit).
That too was our first impression, but after going down that road, we
ended back at "Test & Performance Tools Platform Project".
Indeed a
mouthful, but desire was to keep the top level project name descriptive
(i.e., "test & performance").
Please read the project name in context of the main project, eclipse.
"The Eclipse Test & Performance Tools Platform Project"
-
Sounds good to me [btw: although it should possibly be "Test &
Performance Tools _&_ Platform"]
but...
Additionally, one of the key projects with
the "TPTP" top level project is the "Hyades Platform".

The newsgroup path:
news://news.eclipse.org/eclipse.test-and-performance
is not similar to the existent newsgroups, which use abbreviations (swt,
cdt, jdt ...).

Please imagine a TPTP subproject "dummuy-sub-alpha" which would need an
own newsgroup.
the resulting newsgroup:
news://news.eclipse.org/eclipse.test-and-performance.dummy-sub-alpha"
With an abbreviation:
news://news.eclipse.org/eclipse.tap.dummy-sub-alpha"
-
The abbreviations TAP has (beneath pronounceable) one hidden benefit.
It implies (at least indirectly/incorrectly) testing (TAP = Test Access
Point)
