[News.eclipse.test-and-performance] debugging in eclipse

hi,
I am a startup to moderate level eclipse user, mainly for developing
simple applications in java, for my course in java. 
but i need to know the debugging tools and plugin that is available in the
eclipse , i have been using the debgging mode only to check the errors in
the console,(which is can get without the debug mode) and make code
changes in my file with just the file information and personal decision on
possible cause of error.

I need to know how to use the debug mode to set breakpoints, see the state
of varibles just before and after the app breaks up and to get to the
point of error.
