[news.eclipse.technology.riena] Re: project similar to riena
|
Hi Nicolas
Also could you tell me some words about the others components you
mentioned:
- Reporting
- External Application Integration
- An alternative to the current Workbench UI paradigm
Here is a link to the presentation files from the Eclipse Summit 2007, where we presented Riena for the first
time http://www.eclipsecon.org/summiteurope2007/index.php?page=detail/&id=37.
It contains more details and some visionary screenshot of the visuals of the alternative UI that we are aiming at.
Please keep in mind that this is a vision and that the first codedrop will not even look close to the screenshots there :-)
Presentation files for EclipseCon and Jax will be available after the event of course. (And there is a lot of
new stuff compared to the Summit).
The topic reporting falls in the same category as security, persistence, objecttransactions etc. Riena will and wants to
add the distributed aspect to an existing project. We are aiming at the BIRT project although we havn't made any direct
contact, only played a little with their code. For reporting the distributed aspect is like, only do half of the
reporting on the server which includes: collecting data, sorting, grouping, filtering, calculations and then transfer
the net data to the client, where you actually render the output, filter again, resort, choose a different output
format, print. That would be the vision. We have to see how that translates into code though.
External Application Integration is about display a PDF on the client that comes from the server, create merge documents
with data from the server on your local office software.
Finally, what kind of contribution are you looking for ? I can provide
testing and use-case when milestone will be available.
Nicolas.
For a start I am looking for good use-cases, like where else do you like to add a "distributed aspect" to. Any component
that you use already or that intend to use ?
If you like, please install the first M1 of Riena, once it becomes available. However it will not contain its own UI.
But it is still something you can play with. And any feedback is welcomed.
regards
christian campo
