Hi Tom,
I was orginally thinking of UFace which was also on our radar. But we
are not
fixed to any lib yet. We have a certain vision on what we think the UI
Well UFace itself isn't a widget library it's only a wrapper for
existing widgets beside being a possibility to write code once and
deploy to different runtimes (SWT/GWT/....) one of it's other main
targets is to provide a higherlevel Databinding-Concept.
should look like. You can see
that Mauels posting at the beginning of this thread
and also here
http://eclipsesummit.org/summiteurope2007/presentations/ESE2007_Riena.pdf
we have a certain idea how the UI should look like. That includes the
top of the UI with
the window, the toolbar, the navigation on the left.
I was there ;-) and Riena is one of the things never falling of from my
rader because we are developing similar appilications :-).
We are currently starting an internal project to move our legacy code
(internal Database/UI-Binding + Privilegsystem + ....) to
Eclipse-Databinding (UFace might play a role here too :-).
Our current application framework only support a 2-tier architecture
(which was enough until now) but we are looking around how we could
overcome this limitation and I think Riena could give us all the things
we need
But sure thats only a proposed look and others might have different ideas.
Promising things in that direction I have seen so far are
- SWT Ribbons http://www.hexapixel.com/ribbon/ (are there any patent
problems with that with Microsoft BTW ?)
- Nebula and specifically the PShelf although we need a little more than
it has.
What I wanted to point out that was:
- if nebula provides a widget useful to Riena but needs some tweaking
=> get in touch with the nebula people they welcome any contribution
requests, ....
- if you create new widgets try to keep them as seperate as possible
(a "bad" example is the RichTextEditor from EPF see
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=209373) or even better
put them into nebula instead of riena?
So any idea that gets us closer that proposed sample I think helps us
and helps others (like Manuel).
Tom
