Thanks for the information! 
I installed the hfsutils on my debian system and will give it a try this
weekend (what else can someone do on a weekend...)
My problem is that I cannot test my results - next week I will look for
someone with a Mac in my company and if this test succeeds I will put the
file on a download page.
