[news.eclipse.technology.jsr220-orm] Re: Databases supported

what do you mean by "it is better choose another plugin"? I doubt the jsr220 people will want to or be able to switch a fundamental component of their project..

IMO DTP should offer extension points to easily add missing databases

i don't know what is plan for this project, but database plugin is probably
dtp and they have plan for late 6Q1 - it is now unusable - oracle driver is
generic and port to postgresql is easy (we need only db definition file -
mostly define database types)
it is better choose another plugin - better choice currently is sqlexplorer,
quantum ...

Yes please add postgresql support, it really is one
of the best OSS dbs out there, and definitely has reached
a critical mass to justify an inclusion.

I am sorry to hear that PostgreSQL is not supported. We did a project
with MySQL because it was "free" and then found out it is not free to
commercial organziations like ours. Now we pay a licensing fee and
carefully track assignement of licenses, which is another cost.

PostgreSQL is truly free. It also seems to be far more robust and
reliable than MySQL. We love Eclipse, so its lack of support here is
unfortunate and will probably force us to use Hibernate.
I would like to urge Eclipse's JSR220-ORM planners to include
PostgreSQL
in their plans and let everyone know.
