[news.eclipse.technology.jsr220-orm] Re: JSR243 support in JSR220ORM project
|
Hi Bjorn et all,
Thanks for the explanation. I will talk to Versant about the issues in
their forum.
One of the reasons for starting this discussion here is that all of the
initial committers are Versant, and information from the vendor was not
supplied to us through normal vendor channels. We instead have to deduce
stuff from information from for example this forum, like Roberts post.
But off course all of this is of no interest to the people just
interested in jsr220, you are right. So, sorry about that.
Let me start over then by rephrasing one of my questions triggered by
Roberts post. The project information states:
"The JSR220-ORM Project's goal is to provide tooling for an
implementation of the JSR 220 persistence and JSR 243 specifications
integrated with the Eclipse platform."
and the roadmap consistently talks about the "JSR200/243 runtime".
When reading Roberts post I was a bit confused by the phrase 'before
considering any other artefacts':
"The team currently working on this project is trying to complete JSR220
support before considering any other artifacts. We just cannot do both
right now and it looks like JSR220 support will take us well into next year.
So, it is very difficult to say. There are lots of JDO vendors out there
and it would be great if one would join in the project and contribute by
taking advantage of our extension points."
I would think that some form of support for JSR243 should already been
planned and is not something that has to be considered yet. Unless there
has been a change of direction within this project, or I misunderstand
the project goals and roadmap.
A longwinded way of ending up at the question: what support for JSR243
can we expect from the project ? If there is none planned, shouldn't
goals and roadmap state this more cleary ?
Cheers, Luc.
