[news.eclipse.technology.g-eclipse] Re: Collaborations with Target Management?

Hello Markus,

I suggest that you browse a bit our website and if you want
also download and try out the RSE - that way you'll have
some feeling about what we are doing.

If you'd rather have a phone call first to ask questions
that's fine with me too. Whom would you want to participate
in a phone call? Could we make it in a "Europe friendly"
time zone if only Europeans participate?

The sooner we can talk the better, since I'm going to
be on vacation soon.

Thanks,

Hi Martin,

thanks for your comments! We are aware of DSDP and the target management project and one of our next steps will be to evalutate which parts could be integrated or useful in the g-Eclipse project.

And, yes, we also need traditional communication like SSH.
Perhaps we can collaborate with the Target Management team in these fields?

What is your suggestion for the next steps? Shall we schedule a phone call?

Regards
Markus

Hello,

since in a Grid there is a fundamental need for communications with the nodes, there might be a potential for collaboration with the Target Management Project.

From the http://www.geclipse.eu website I gathered that an initial version of gEclipse tools will use g-lite as middleware. Does this solve all your communication needs already? Or would you also need "traditional" communications like ftp, rlogin, telnet?

In terms of visualizing the Grid status, the Target Management / RSE Views might also be useful. All you'd need to do is write (UI-less) RSE subsystem implementations for getting the data out of your middleware.

For more information, have a look at http://www.eclipse.org/dsdp/tm/
or write to the mailing list (you'll need to subscribe via https://dev.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/dsdp-tm-dev).
