[news.eclipse.technology.epf] Collaboration between EPF and ORMF

Hi,

Please allow me to introduce myself and Barbara. We have proposed the 
"Open Requirements Management Framework"  (ORMF)  
<http://www.eclipse.org/proposals/ormf/> project. We have listed EPF as 
one of the projects were we feel there is a natural synergy and the 
possibility for collaboration. This week John Graham (Sybase & DTP) 
asked me how we saw the relationship between EPF and ORMF. I have 
reposted his query and my response here for your information and in the 
hope that it will catalyse the beginning of our relationship.

If you are interested in bringing requirements management into Eclipse, 
I invite you to join us the BoF we are hosting at EclipseCon 
(http://www.eclipsecon.org/2008/?page=sub/&id=586), "Eclipse as a 
requirements management platform", where we will aim to share ideas, 
thoughts and approaches to the big issues surrounding ORMF.

Right now the relationship with the EPF is undefined, in fact I have 
yet to contact them about exploring the possibilities. Requirements is 
one of the major workflows for RUP and core to most every other 
process. Having performed process engineering roles in the past, I 
realised that frequently process tools leave an undesirable gap between 
the defined process and the actual artefacts that should be created to 
document the process. I think it would be rather neat if we could link 
into EPF in such a way that the documents managed within ORMF were know 
by EFP. Then when a process engineer creates a process for a project, 
she would be able to define and link to the specific artefact types 
that were to be used. Likewise, ORMF should be smart enough to read a 
process definition and tune the ORMF workspace for that project 
consistently.

Thanks for asking that question, it is something that we did not 
develop at all in the proposal and it I feel it is really an deserves 
to be exploration.
