Hibernate have never claimed they have fetch groups! And it is not an
attempt to fake it.

We can add fetch groups the day we get more than a few requests with proper
usecases for it - until now that has not happend.

This has always been the way Hibernate added features and from my  
perspective
that has worked very well - for some reason it irritates some people that
we also have our own opinion and use that to prioritize features.
